Description
"Southern trees bear a strange fruit
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root
Black bodies swingin' in the southern breeze
Strange fruit hangin' from the poplar trees
Pastoral scene of the gallant south
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth
Scent of magnolia, sweet and fresh
Then the sudden smell of burnin' flesh
Here is a fruit for the crows to pluck
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck
For the sun to rot, for the tree to drop
Here is a strange and bitter crop"
Lyrics and music by Lewis Allen in 1939. Performed by Billie Holiday.
Inspired by this great song, and the realisation that people have changed. No longer do we use ropes... we use the guise of peace, or security, vieled in sanctioned violence, to attack the minorities. So much easier than getting our hands dirty.

Very dramatic. I love the way the lyrics describe the picture perfectly.
It's a shame the way humanity treats one another, even today. Maybe oneday we can live peacefully together...
